Maryland Historical Trust
A most informative website! The Maryland Historical Trust was formed
in 1961 to assist the people of Maryland in identifying, studying, evaluating,
preserving, protecting, and interpreting the state's significant prehistoric
and historic districts, sites, structures, cultural landscapes, heritage
areas, cultural objects, and artifacts, as well as less tangible human and
community traditions.

Antietam National
Battlefield
Established by Act of Congress on August 30, 1890, this Civil War site marks
the end of General Robert E. Lee's first invasion of the North in September
1862. The battle claimed more than 23,000 men killed, wounded, and missing
in one single day, September 17,1862, and led to Lincoln's issuance of the
Emancipation Proclamation.

for Antietam and Monocacy National Battlefields. It is involved in park
