George Washington Monument
Washington Monument State Park

There are over 4,000 listed historic properties, many miles of 18th and 19th century stone fences lining roadways and fields and 23 early stone arch bridges in Washington County.

Our Nation's first monument to George Washington stands here. It was dedicated July 4, 1827, and is located atop South Mountain, the natural border between Frederick and Washington Counties.

We have many sites and structures spanning three centuries. The colonial settlement of our Nation, vivid reminders of the Civil War, the powerful architecture of 19th century industry and symbols of the growth and prosperity of the 20th century are all here in beautiful Washington County.
